• The IUPAC Webinar Series on Entrepreneurship and Chemistry took place on Wednesday, 5 February 2025, featuring a captivating conversation between Dr. Amy S. Cannon, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Beyond Benign, and Prof. Francesca Kerton, Professor of Green Chemistry at Memorial University of Newfoundland. The discussion focused on the path towards a sustainable society grounded in green chemistry and sustainability. It highlighted the importance of industrial innovation as well as educational transformation to create a pipeline of scientists trained in green chemistry, sustainability, and circularity. Dr. Cannon shared insights from her work with Beyond Benign, a non-profit organization advancing green chemistry education globally, while Prof. Kerton emphasized her innovative research on sustainable chemistry, particularly in relation to the oceans. The webinar explored how entrepreneurial vision within mission-driven organizations can catalyze real change in academia and industry, empowering individuals to implement greener practices.

• The International Conference on the Social Entrepreneurial Ecosystem took place from February 6-7, 2025, at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. The conference, held at the School of Management and Labour Studies, brought together experts, researchers, and practitioners to discuss the evolving landscape of social entrepreneurship. Over two days, attendees explored various aspects of social entrepreneurial ecosystems, sharing insights on challenges, innovations, and opportunities within the sector. The event provided a platform for valuable networking and knowledge exchange, furthering the institute’s commitment to fostering social change through academic excellence and practical engagement.

• The International Conference on Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ICSEI) took place on February 10-11, 2025 in Pattaya (Thailand),  Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Toronto (Canada), Houston (United States), Istanbul (Turkey), Barcelona (Spain), bringing together leading academic scientists, researchers, and scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research findings on all aspects of social entrepreneurship and innovation. The conference provided a premier interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners, and educators to discuss the latest innovations, trends, and concerns in the field, as well as the practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted. With a diverse range of presentations and discussions, the conference offered exceptional value for students, academics, and industry researchers, fostering collaboration and advancing the field of social entrepreneurship.

• GreenBiz 25 took place from February 10-12, 2025, in Phoenix, AZ, USA, bringing together sustainability leaders to address the challenges in an unpredictable political, social, and economic environment. Attendees had the opportunity to connect with peers and trailblazers, gaining insights and mastering essential skills to navigate their company’s unique sustainability challenges. The event featured influential voices in sustainability, offering valuable discussions on the latest trends in decarbonization, disclosure, nature, supply chains, strategic communications, change management, and more. GreenBiz 25 served as a pivotal platform for learning and collaboration within the sustainability community.

• On 11-13 February, the ANDE Pan-Africa Conference took place in Dakar, Senegal, bringing together leaders, innovators, and change-makers from across the African entrepreneurship ecosystem. Over two days of insightful sessions and networking events, participants discussed the future of inclusive entrepreneurship across the continent, with a focus on empowering youth, leveraging digital innovation, fostering diversity, and uplifting cultural enterprises. The event culminated in a day of off-site visits and excursions, where attendees had the opportunity to meet local entrepreneurs and witness impactful initiatives firsthand. This year’s edition, organized by the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE), was a powerful reminder of the transformative role of entrepreneurship in Africa's sustainable development.

• On 14 February, the Humanitarian Finance Summit took place in London, UK, bringing together a diverse group of representatives from NGOs, philanthropy, government bodies, multilateral banks, development finance institutions, academics, and investment managers involved in development aid. The day was filled with dynamic discussions and networking opportunities, focusing on practical approaches to developing new financial strategies for addressing humanitarian challenges. Participants examined current investments, including impact investments, insurance products, and capital markets issuance, while also exploring solutions to the significant funding gaps within the humanitarian sector. The conference provided a premier interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners, and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns in the field, along with the practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted. With a diverse range of presentations and discussions, ICSEI offered exceptional value to students, academics, and industry researchers, fostering collaboration and advancing the field of social entrepreneurship and innovation.

• The International Conference on Service Systems and Social Innovation (ICSSSI) took place on February 17-18, 2025, in Mumbai, India. The conference successfully brought together leading academic scientists, researchers, and scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research findings on all aspects of service systems and social innovation. It provided a premier interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners, and educators to present and discuss the latest innovations, trends, and concerns in the field, as well as the practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted. ICSSSI offered valuable insights and fostered collaboration, providing exceptional value to students, academics, and industry researchers.

*OurBook Club📚:

For February 2025, “Eco-Business: A Big-Brand Takeover of Sustainability’’ by Peter Dauvergne is a crucial read for our Book Club. The book critically examines how large corporations co-opt the sustainability movement, often using green marketing tactics to enhance their image while failing to make meaningful environmental impact. Dauvergne exposes the phenomenon of greenwashing and challenges entrepreneurs to differentiate between genuine sustainability and corporate spin. For social entrepreneurs, this book offers valuable lessons on building businesses that are authentically committed to sustainability, avoiding the pitfalls of big-brand eco-claims.
