Dr. Orn Supaphol, Ph.D. is a distinguished Research and Innovation Advisor to the Social Entrepreneurship Research Institute (SERI), where she applies her extensive expertise in agriculture, soil science, and sustainable development to foster innovative solutions to global challenges. With a rich academic background and a career spanning across the verdant fields of Thailand, the deserts of the UAE, and Saudi Arabia, Dr. Orn is at the forefront of combating climate change and advancing sustainable agricultural practices.
Her work as the Chief Technical Officer and Principal Soil Scientist at Saudi Desert Control has made her a key figure in transforming arid lands into fertile, productive ecosystems. She is a pioneer in using Liquid Natural Clay (LNC) technology, which plays a crucial role in improving soil health, conserving water, and supporting reforestation and afforestation efforts. These innovations are not only addressing water scarcity but also contributing to food security and carbon capture in the soil—directly combating climate change.
Dr. Orn's academic journey, from Kasetsart University in Thailand to Newcastle University in the UK, focused on soil microorganisms and bioremediation, particularly in petroleum-contaminated soils. Her work spans collaborations with leading institutions such as the University of Western Australia, Kobe University, and King Saud University, and she is currently involved in groundbreaking research with The National Centre for Research and Development of Sustainable Agriculture (Estidama) in Riyadh. Her work aims to develop innovative methods to cultivate food in arid lands, further advancing sustainable agricultural practices.
As a Research and Innovation Advisor at SERI, Dr. Orn bridges the gap between scientific research, technology, and social entrepreneurship. She actively collaborates with social innovators, investors, and technology companies to foster high-impact solutions for sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship. Her role at SERI is pivotal in advancing initiatives that not only address the immediate challenges of food security and climate change but also promote long-term, scalable solutions through social entrepreneurship.
Dr. Orn's remarkable achievements have earned her numerous accolades, including being nominated for the V60 Award for Women Leading Climate & Sustainability in the Middle East by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and being selected as one of the Global 200 Women Power Leaders 2024 by White Page International. Her work continues to inspire innovation and leadership in the fight against climate change and in the pursuit of a more sustainable future for the planet.
Through her role at SERI, Dr. Orn is dedicated to shaping the future of sustainable development, creating pathways for social entrepreneurs to lead transformative change in agriculture, climate action, and beyond.
