The Social Enterprise Collective's "Igniting Impact: Connecting, Collaborating, and Celebrating Social Entrepreneurship in Washington, DC" event on April 4, 2024, hosted by Pepperdine University's MA in Social Entrepreneurship and the Pepperdine School of Public Policy, was an inspiring evening highlighting the power of social entrepreneurship. Attendees engaged in networking sessions participated in insightful panel discussions on impact funding and startup strategies, and were inspired by a fireside chat with distinguished guest speakers Jonathan Soros and Laura Lucas Magnuson. The event also featured a business plan student fast pitch competition, showcasing the creativity and innovation of social entrepreneurship students. With featured speakers including Alison Oliveira Wheeler, Cordell Carter, Janet Tran, and facilitated by Erika Hanafin Feldhus and Damara Catlett, the event provided practical insights and celebrated the next generation of social entrepreneurs, fostering connections and collaboration in the vibrant Washington, DC community.
The 2024 Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Start Up Competition, held from April 4th to 6th at Morehouse College's Bank of America Auditorium, was an electrifying showcase of entrepreneurial talent from diverse student bodies. Featuring two dynamic categories—social entrepreneurship and innovation—the competition offered participants the chance to compete for prestigious monetary prizes of up to $7,500.00 and benefit from mentorship opportunities. With rigorous evaluation processes and captivating 10-minute pitches to expert panels, the event provided a platform for students to demonstrate their innovative solutions. Morehouse College's commitment to covering lodging expenses for out-of-town participants enhanced accessibility and underscored the event's mission to foster inclusive entrepreneurship.
The GRESODIImpact Incubation Program, which commenced on April 7th, 2024, offered a comprehensive support package to individuals aiming to establish social or green impact enterprises, whether recently founded or planned within the next 12 months. Participants benefited from 15 hours of personalized coaching, 12 months of office workspace at the UNICORN Startup & Innovation Hub, and a series of specialized workshops covering diverse aspects of corporate development and impact analysis. Additionally, the program provided extensive promotion across social business networks, integration into the Styrian social business community, and opportunities for international collaboration with partner regions such as Hungary and Spain. With a submission deadline on April 7th, 2024, at 11:59 p.m., followed by a final jury decision announced during a pitch event, the program has successfully equipped participants with the tools and support needed for their entrepreneurial endeavors.
The AMP Foundation Tomorrow Makers SPARK Program, concluding on April 9th with the closure of applications, acted as a dynamic launchpad for budding social entrepreneurs. Across the 18-week fully-funded initiative, participants will delve into immersive workshops, engage with weekly digital modules, and receive ongoing mentorship from industry veterans. This nurturing environment facilitates the development of groundbreaking ideas while equipping individuals with essential skills like business modeling, pitching, and marketing. Moreover, participants seize the opportunity to network with like-minded peers, fostering potential collaborations and propelling them toward becoming the next generation of tomorrow makers.
The Skoll World Forum, held from April 9th to 12th, 2024, brought together a diverse array of social entrepreneurs and innovators committed to driving large-scale progress. Hosted annually by the Skoll Foundation, this event serves as a platform for collaboration, inspiration, and action. Notable speakers included renowned figures such as George and Amal Clooney, as well as former New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern. Representatives from academic institutions, financial institutions, civil society organizations, businesses, governments, and investment funds participated, both in-person in Oxford, UK, and virtually. The forum provided a unique opportunity for delegates to exchange ideas, forge partnerships, and catalyze positive change on a global scale.
On April 9th, 2024, Impact Europe hosted an e-talk titled "Fuelling Change: Broadening Foundations’ Catalytic Toolbox" at 14.00 CET. The event aimed to explore the role of catalytic capital in impact investing, focusing on the perspective of foundations as catalysts for social change. Three expert practitioners, including the Senior Investor Relations Director of the End Fund, Deputy CEO of the Rank Foundation, and Chief Financial Officer of the Sumerian Foundation, shared their insights and approaches to using their foundation’s toolbox for impact. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the challenges, learnings, and rationale behind different approaches, with a short Q&A session allowing for further engagement.
